Cleveland has become quite a burlesque town creating its own cadre of performers and frequently welcoming touring performers to its stages. The annual three-day Ohio Burlesque Festival celebrated its 8th year at the Beachland Ballroom in August, Le Femme Mystique has been presenting shows for 15 years, including at the Alex at the 9 downtown and other troupes offer shows at clubs like the Winchester and Brothers Lounge.

So local audiences should be primed and ready for the first Midwest Nerdlesque Fest, which arrives at the Tangier in Akron for two days this weekend. The force behind it is Noella DeVille, a familiar performer on Le Femme Mystique shows.

What is “nerdlesque,” you ask? It’s well known that burlesque girls are often fans of “nerd” culture, with a geeky passion for pop culture often reflected in their acts which pay tribute to their favorite TV, movie, cartoon, comic book and gaming characters.

The festival will feature more than 40 local to international performers, with cosplay starlet Dangrrr Doll and Canada’s Ivory headlining on Friday and Minneapolis “boylesque” star Tre Da Marc and Redrum, known for her daringly macabre performance-art numbers, headlining Saturday’s show

Tickets range from $20-$60 and part of the proceeds will go to Margie’s Hope, an organization founded by Jacob Nash to advance the interests of transgender people.
