Riverdog Retreat Hosts Country/Americana Couple – and Burns Effigy of Winter

Sat 4/14 @ 7:30PM

Singer/songwriter/guitarists Blake Berglund and Melanie Hankewich (aka Belle Plaine) both hail from the rural wilds of Saskatchewan. Both had busy musical careers with different projects before they hooked up to make music together and become a real-life couple.

Berlgund’s leaned more toward old-school country back when its stars had weightier concerns than driving their pickup truck down to the river to drink some ice-cold beers with a leggy girl in blue-jean cutoffs. Hankewich brought to the partnership an interest in other old Americana styles including blues and swing.

They both continue to work on their own things, while coming together from time to time as they will at Oberlin’s Riverdog Gallery this weekend where they’ll perform as a trio.

There will be something extra going on too. After the show, the folks at the Riverdog will be burning an effigy of “Old Man Winter” to try to hasten the arrival of spring — which means the return of shows out in the Riverdog Barn.

Admission is $17 at the door, which includes free snacks. As always, you are welcome to bring coolers, picnic baskets and what have you. Doors open at 6. For reservations —always a good idea here, go to riverdogmusic or call 440-965-8309.
