François Moutin is a French jazz bassist and composer who abandoned physics (in which he has a doctorate) for music in his mid 20s. Now in his mid 50s, he’s performed with the Martial Solal Trio for 30 years and done a number of projects with his twin brother Louis, and worked with such musicians as Toots Thielemans, Jack DeJohnette, Randy Brecker, Dave Liebman and Michel Legrand.
Vocalist/composer Kavita Shah is a native New Yorker who melds jazz with world music, incorporating South Asian, West African and Latin American influences into her work. She earned masters degree in jazz voice at Manhattan School of Music before releasing her debut album Visions in 2014, followed by 2017’s Park Avenue.
Together the François Moutin Kavita Shah Duo released their debut album Interplay earlier this year. It features classics like Edith Piaf’s signature piece “La Vie en Rose,” arranged for bass and voice, as well as original pieces by Moutin and Shah.
The duo will perform at the BOP STOP. Tickets are $15.
