“The Effect” at Dobama Theatre Addresses the Chemistry of Drugs and Love

Fri 3/2-Sun 3/25

British playwright Lucy Prebble’s play The Effect revolves around a pair of volunteers in a clinical drug trial who become romantically involved, raising questions about whether their attraction is induced by the chemicals in the drugs they’re receiving.

The play debuted in London in 2012, and now it’s getting its midwest premiere at the Dobama Theatre, in a production helmed by Chicago freelance director Laley Lippard, and featuring Olivia Scicolone, Ananias J. Dixon, Derdriu Ring and Joel Hammer.

It opens Fri 3/2, following two previews Feb 2/28 and Thu 3/1, and runs through Sun 3/25. Tickets are $29-$32. Preview tickets are $15. Call the box office at 216.932.3396 or go to dobama.org.
