Some of us look around and bemoan the litter that despoils our streets, gutters, roadsides and parks. Artist Ron Barron looks around and sees the elements for creativity. He began colleting trash from the streets of New York in 2010 and arranging it on a scanner bed to produce his abstract compositions. He followed that up with a similar transformation of junk scooped up from Long Island and Lake Erie.
Works from both of these series, titled Trashcans and Adrift, will be part of his new show, Gleanings, at the Bonfoey Gallery through Sat 4/2. A movie documenting the creation of these works will be showing at the gallery during the exhibit’s run.
It opens with a reception Fri 3/4 @ 5-8pm which will also be the launch party for the latest issue of CAN Journal, the local quarterly devoted to the area’s visual arts scene. It’s free and open to all.
