Fri 9/11 @ 8PM
Chicago is a teeming center for jazz — all types. Sax player Chris Greene grew up in Evanston, a cultural hive immediately to Chicago’s north, where he consumed jazz, R& B, blues and pop music. His band, the Chris Green Quartet, uses all of these and more (including hip hop, gospel and Afro-Cuban music) to create their distinctive sound.
An alumni of the Indiana University Jazz Studies program, Greene made the logical move back to Chicago in 1994. From that base he has performed with artists ranging from the Temptations to rapper Common to indie folk artist Andrew Bird. He’s been recording as a band leader since the late ’90s, and with the Quartet, his primary musical ensemble, since 2007.
The Chris Greene Quartet, which also features drummer Steve Corley, bassist Marc Piane and keyboard player Damian Espinosa, will perform at BluJazz Akron. Tickets are $15.
