Apparently, the TV series Bridgerton, following a noble family in Regency-era England (early 1800s), is on everyone’s mind now, as this is the second event THIS WEEK I’ve come across with a Regency theme.
The theme of Cleveland Museum of Art’s monthly MIX party is Summer Soiree, described as “an enchanted evening inspired by the elegance and romance of the regency era as portrayed on the Netflix hit television series Bridgerton.” Just forget that most of the Regency-era British population was living in the squalor and poverty of the early industrial revolution, and put on elegant period attire (if you can pull together any) and enjoy upscale entertainment from Cleveland’s versatile classical ensemble, OPUS 216, which will play pop songs and Bridgerton-themed music arranged for string quartet. Viva Dance Studio’s Rebecca Sweet will offer a waltz lesson at 6:45.
After OPUS 216’s 6pm and 7pm sets, DJ Sobe will spin pop, rock and other tunes for any type of dancing you choose to do in the Ames Family Atrium. And as a special treat, members of the Ohio Burlesque Festival LLC ensemble (the festival takes place at the Beachland Ballroom August 13-15; do not miss it!) will be roaming the atrium in royal (likely heavily rhinestoned) attire.
The galleries will be open for browsing, including the newly redesigned ArtLens Gallery. Themed food and drink will be available for purchase.
