It’s a Beautiful Day, led by violinist David LaFlamme, kind of missed their moment. They came out of San Francisco following the legendary 1967 Summer of Love, and like so many San Francisco bands of that time put together a unique sound by combining elements of different genres in new ways. It’s a Beautiful Day had a dreamy, hypnotic sound driven by spiraling cascades of melody and keening male/female vocals similar to those of Jefferson Airplane. That sound is epitomized on their best-known tune “White Bird.”

The band released four albums between 1969 and 1973 but they never got their big break and dissolved in 1974. LaFlamme has periodically gone out since then, reviving the band’s music for audiences with original drummer Val Fuentes and his wife Linda Baker LaFlamme on vocals, not to be confused with his ex-wife Linda LaFlamme who was the band’s original keyboard player.

They’ll be at Nighttown this week for two shows. Tickets are $30.
