Joe Deninzon arrived in Cleveland from Leningrad, where he was born, in the late ’70s, when his father came here to join the Cleveland Orchestra. Like his father, Deninzon took up the violin. Unlike his father, who still plays with the orchestra, the son didn’t devote himself to classical music. Instead he took to the electric violin and pursued music with progressive rock and jazz influences, with his band Stratospherius and other ensembles.
He played out around Cleveland quite a bit in the ’90s before moving to New York, where he’s based now. He’s paying a return visit to his hometown and he’s tapped three local players to join him as the Joe Deninzon Quartet: guitarist Dan Wilson, drummer Bill Ransom, and bassist Alfredo Guerrieri.
Tickets are $15.
