’90s Alt-Rockers Cracker Play @MusicBoxCle

Sun 8/17 @ 8PM

California’s Cracker were part of a tsunami of alternative bands that dominated the airwaves in the ’90s after Nirvana cleared the path by wiping out hair metal.

Featuring singer David Lowery, who had fronted the respected but not terribly successful eclectic rock band Camper Van Beethoven in the ’80s, the group enjoyed early success with its 1993 album Kerosene Hat and its biggest single “Low.”  That song wasn’t typical of its often snarky output like “Euro-Trash Girl,” “I Hate My Generation,” and “Teen Angst (What The World Needs Now),” which blazed the trail for a spate of ’90s/early ’00s rock novelty songs.

Lowery and guitarist Johnny Hickman have continued to record and tour as Cracker since then, with a dozen other members coming and going.

The group performs at the Music Box Supper Club, with the witty and engaging Akron duo ShiSho opening.

Tickets are $25 in advance, $28 at the door. Dinner services starts at 6pm; showtime is 8.
