Lake Erie Islands Museum

ei1

Twenty-six islands dot Lake Erie. Island life is portrayed at the Lake Erie Islands Museum, located on South Bass Island not far from the northside dock. The Museum helps visitors relive the Battle of Lake Erie, which was fought by the Niagara and drove the British away, causing General Harrison to proclaim “We have met the enemy, and they are ours.”

That battle and other historic events of island life are portrayed in the film shown just inside the doorway. The museum displays historical memorabilia of the Lake Erie Islands, many of which were once owned by Jose Riviera. Explore agricultural equipment, wine-making apparatus, various boats and ships, the tourist trade, and famous islanders in an unpretentious building.
