Cleveland Indians’ Revolutionary Wind Turbine

Wind turbines are popping up all over NEO. The Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds recently erected a 265-foot wind turbine that will soon begin generating electricity and Progressive Field just installed a wind turbine — an innovative corkscrew turbine designed by Cleveland State University professor Majid Rashidi.

According to TreeHugger, the corkscrew turbine will generate approximately 40,000 kilowatt-hours per year. Not a huge power-hitter but the design excels in its compact size (great for urban environments), cost-effectiveness, and the ability to generate power consistently where wind speeds can be too variable to make traditional wind turbines effective.
