Awesome jazz and rock drummer Cindy Blackman, born in Yellow Springs, Ohio and for many years serving as drummer for Lenny Kravitz, accepted a proposal of marriage from the legendary Carlos Santana after her drum solo in his song, “Corazon Espinado,” onstage at the Chicago stop on his Universal Tone Tour at Tinley Park, Illinois on Sat 7/9. Santana has been divorced for three years from his wife Debora, to whom he was married for 34 years.
Blackman was influenced by drummers Art Blakey and Tony Williams, and has also played with Pharoah Sanders, Cassandra Wilson and Bill Laswell. In 2004, she left Kravitz’s band to return to jazz, and in 2007, she toured South America and gave clinics in Argentina, Chile & Brazil.
“Cindy and I are blessed to have found each other,” Santana said in a statement, “Being in love is a gift from the universe, and the spirit and vibrations that come with it are infinitely powerful. I look forward to expressing that incredible energy through my music, and in helping to tip the balance toward more love in the world with what Cindy and I share.”
