Borderless

11.10-11.17.21

We can’t make progress without crossing a border.

Change is inevitable. Whether it’s positive or negative is up to us. Graffitists Bob Peck & Rich C!hlar warn us: Don’t Panic: Brace For Impact. Akron Soul Train explores interstate migration. Oberlin Opera Theatre explores love and loss through a Greek myth, and Gum-Dip Theatre presents Brokers Without Borders in Akron.CoolCleveland columnist C. Ellen Connally previews the upcoming era of Justin Bibb, the mayor-elect and the new face of Cleveland, as he attempts to turn the hopes and promises of a campaign into real progress for our region. And we revisit some of Mansfield Frazier’s writings back when he decided to run for city council because he felt his beloved Ward 7 was not being served. It all starts when you take that first step across the line.

 COMMENTARY
The New Face of Cleveland

When sworn into office in January, Justin Bibb will become Cleveland’s second youngest mayor and the first mayor in decades to come to office with no previous experience as an elected official. But apparently voters did not consider that a deciding factor when going to the polls. As CoolCleveland columnist C. Ellen Connally points out, “This lack of government experience must be balanced with Bibb’s educational background and the wide variety of experiences that he brings to the table.” And one thing’s for sure: the status quo, represented by Bibb’s opponent Kevin Kelley, wasn’t doing Cleveland any favors. Read More

 REVISITED
Taking Matters Into his Own Hands

Mansfield Frazier wasn’t one to sit around pissing and moaning and wringing his hands. When he felt that his then-councilman, TJ Dow, was blocking progress in Ward 7, he announced his own campaign for the job in April 2017. Read More

A New Day for Ward 7

Our ward has languished for the past seven or eight years. Safety has decreased, services have deteriorated and development has been nonexistent since our beloved Councilwoman Fannie Lewis passed away. The situation has become intolerable, and therefore I feel compelled to act.I have the experience to jumpstart development, the integrity to assure that all ward business is carried out in an aboveboard, open and honest manner, and I have cultivated the business and personal relationships over the years that are so critical to success. Therefore, I’m announcing my candidacy to be Ward 7’s representative on Cleveland City Council. Read More
