Folknet Presents Michigan Country/Folk Peformer Joel Mabus

Sat 11/13 @ 7:15PM

Joel Mabus was born in Southern Illinois where he inherited his love of “hillbilly” music from his musician parents. When his contemporaries were digging the Beatles, he was listening to Bill Monroe and Earl Scruggs. He made his earlier album in the late ’70s, before recording two out-of-print records for Flying Fish in the early ’80s.

But he took things into his own hands when he formed Fossil Records and began releasing his own alums in 1987. Since then he’s put out nearly two dozen country/folk albums with a bluegrass bent while touring steadily from his Michigan base, the latest being 2019’s Truth and Time. Since he plays all the instruments of the typical bluegrass band (guitar, mandolin, banjo, fiddle), he could be his own band if he were quadruplets.

Mabus will be the guest of Cleveland acoustic music nonprofit Folknet for a virtual concert. Cleveland singer/songwriter/guitarist Mallory San Marco will get things warmed up for him.
