Young Pianist Makes His Cleveland Orchestra Debut

Thu 11/11 @ 7:30PM

Sat 11/13 @ 8PM

Sun 11/14 @ 3PM

As we learned in the last 20 months, things change — often quickly. And the Cleveland Orchestra has just announced some changes to their program of November 11-14.

Conductor Semyon Bychkov has had to bow out; Swiss conductor Theirry Fischer, who made his debut with the Cleveland Orchestra at Blossom in 2019, will be leading the concerts instead.

The program will change as well: instead of Antonin Dvořák’s In Nature’s Realm and Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 1, the orchestra will be playing Modest Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, orchestrated by Maurice Ravel and Olivier Messiaen’s Les offrandes oubliées.

Still on the program is Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G major, inspired by both Mozart and American jazz. It features the Cleveland Orchestra debut of 21-year-old Israeli pianist Tom Borrow; he is currently still in school at Tel Aviv University. So far he’s primarily played with orchestras in Israel but he’s got upcoming dates booked with orchestras all over Europe and North and South America: he’s clearly bound for great things.

Masks and proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test are required at Severance Hall. For tickets, go here.
