The Shaker Arts Council (SHAC) is starting a new performance series it’s calling Heart of the Arts to present music, dance and poetry performances in various Shaker Heights venues.

It will launch this weekend with the Von James Xperience: An Evening of Soulful Music. James is a local jazz/soul/gospel vocalist and actress who studied jazz and opera at Cleveland State University, and has performed at Tri-C JazzFest, at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony and Cain Park’s annual Multi Music smooth jazz concert. She’ll perform with her band at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Cleveland. the concert is followed by a Q&A and meet-and-greet with the musicians. Tickets, $15 in advance, $20 at the door, include light refreshments.
