The rushing waters these past few weeks have got us thinking about NEO as a safe haven from the coming climate crises. In a flash, extreme weather puts our assumptions in question. But it wasn’t the recent storms that caused the power outages our region has been experiencing. Blame it on on First Energy’s profit-taking at the expense of investing in infrastructure (according to PUCO), enabled by the largest corruption scandal in Ohio history. Thinking about going to a festival this week? We’re overflowing with them this week: Highland Square’s PorchROKR may be our region’s largest music festival, with over 200 bands on 40 stages, most of them porches. You can get on a paddleboard at Whiskey Island Paddlefest, the Pagan Pride Festival returns to Bedford, the Asian Lantern Festival at the Zoo hosts a 5K, the St. Stephen’s Day Parish Festival celebrates Hungarian food, culture and community in Ohio City, and the Ohio Burlesque Fest turns 14. Oh, and the Feast of the Assumption classifies as a festival, now merely 127 years old.
Concentrate a little and you’ll find more: outdoor music in the Park at Furnace Run, a guided cycle ride on the Canalway, gypsy jazz at Cain Park, a garden benefit to save cats, opera at Summers at Severance, a party to celebrate 12 years of the Music Box Supper Club, and fun ways to celebrate the peach harvest, alpacas, girls’ accessories, street art, a Pride ride, and a chance to sit in the studio as the premier Glamericana band, Cowboy Princess Brigade, record their new album at Suma.
