The African American Heritage & Cultural Celebration has returned, this time as a one-day celebration taking place at the Western Reserve Historical Society’s. There, for a full day, musicians, poets, vendors, artists, exhibitors and others will be presenting are wide range of insights into Black history and culture in the U.S., with activities and presentations for all ages, including a dedicated children’s village.
It kicks off with an opening ceremony at 11:30, followed by a host of performances mostly drawn from Northeast Ohio’s deep community of Black performers, including the area’s #1 reggae act, Carlos Jones & the P.L.U.S. Band, MC Chill & friends, the Robeson Singers, DJ Lord Jazz, a Marvin Gaye tribute by Mr. Rick, Michael Calhoun of the Dazz Band, Mix Master Ice from UTFO and many others. Host and special honoree is Kevin “Mc Chill” Heard, the first Cleveland rap act to make a national impact back in the 1990s. There’ll also be special appearances by Cutmaster Cool V of the Vapors, Roxanne Shante and Big Mucci.
The day will also feature a cultural marketplace with food and vendors, historical exhibits, a poetry slam, unlimited rides on the Euclid Beach Park Grand Carousel and access to the center’s galleries and exhibits — all for free. But you must register HERE.
