Casper Kelly is a film producer, director and writer whose horror/comedy Buddy, which opened in theaters September 4, was filmed in Cleveland. And the Greater Cleveland Film Commission (GCFC), which promotes Cleveland as a location for making movies and creating careers in filmmaking, is bringing him to town to share his success story and inspire other aspiring filmmakers.
On Friday evening July 10, they’ll be hosting “An Insider’s Evening with Casper Kelly,” so that locals engaged in film as fans or aspiring pro can here directly from Kelly about his career and the many credits he’s amassed over the last nearly 30 years.
“Productions like Buddy spotlight Northeast Ohio to the world, while driving production spending to the region and creating hundreds of local jobs and small business opportunities,” says GCFC President Bill Garvey in the press release for the event. “Our talented, expert workforce, visually stunning and diverse locations, and wide array of local resources like TRG Multimedia, the largest soundstage between Chicago and New York at 160,000 square feet, make Greater Cleveland a proven and growing filming destination.”
The event takes place at TRG Multimedia’s studios in Brooklyn, giving guests the chance to see the state-of-the-art production studio, while consuming craft cocktails and appetizers, and hearing a conversation with Kelly hosted by Laura Wimbels aka Lenora on Midnight Rental, as he talks about his experiences in the film business.

Then on Saturday morning July 11, Kelly will host a screenwriting workshop at the Cleveland Institute of Art’s Interactive Media Lab.
“Participants will explore script structure, plot twists, dialogue, character development and more,” they share. “Attendees are encouraged to bring their ideas, and one lucky person will be selected to receive live feedback on a one- to two-page script from Kelly and fellow workshop participants.”
