Celebrating reggae great Bob Marley’s birthday has become a tradition in Cleveland’s reggae community (some time in February—his actual birthday was February 6). The area’s most prominent reggae band, Carlos Jones & the P.L.U.S. Band, has been doing so for more than 25 years, starting with their annual brunch event at the Parkview Tavern in Gordon Square and then moving to the larger Beachland Ballroom.

The afternoon party at the Beachland will kick off with DJ Mark Mrazek spinning appropriate music, followed by a set from Sun Shade, a Jamaican-born Cleveland-based reggae performer, and his band, the Tropical Vybes Band. The P.L.U.S. Band will cap the event with a set of their powerfully positive original music, mixed with their favorite Marley tunes, while the “reggae family” packs the dance floor in front of the stage. There’ll also be vendors on hand with Jamaican- and reggae-themed items, and Jamaican food whipped up by Eric Hooper of Tremont’s Hooper Farm. Go here to snag tickets.
