Canalway’s Buried History Days, which take participants on walking tours of various Cleveland cemeteries, aren’t intended to be spooky but educational. Local cemeteries are repositories of stories about former Cleveland citizens and their contributions to this region. The Take a Hike tours, which lead people through various areas of Cleveland to share the stories inherent in its streets and buildings, will lead groups through the grand Lake View Cemetery where some of the city’s wealthiest and most prominent citizens are buried, as well as smaller and less well-known burial places such as Cleveland’s oldest cemetery Erie Street Cemetery downtown across from Progressive Field; Monroe Street Cemetery in Ohio City, Riverside and Brookmere cemeteries in Old Brooklyn; in Old Brooklyn; and Woodland Cemetery, just off the Opportunity Corridor.
