With economic uncertainty and an almost certain recession looming, we all need to enjoy our summer but probably spend less money doing so. Luckily, northeast Ohio is beautiful in the summer, especially along our biggest natural treasure Lake Erie. And a great place to partake of an old-fashioned traditional summer — whether you’re hanging with friends, going on a family outing, or riding with your biker mates — is Geneva-on-the-Lake, less than an hour east of Cleveland. Go for a day or book a cottage and spend the week. Take the kids for ice cream, candy and miniature golf, go ziplining at the lodge or drop in an arcade to play some vintage games. Bikers will find lots of friendly bars; it’s no accident that GOTL’s many souvenir shops are crammed with Harley gear.
The season kicks off Mother’s Day weekend with the annual parade that steps out at 1pm. The “strip” running through the heart of town gets crowded so bring your folding chair and stake out your spot early. Most of the businesses will be reopening for the season including the legendary Eddie’s Grill which turns 75 this year. You’ll find no shortage of the type of food you probably shouldn’t eat every day, but what the heck — you’re on vacation!
