Fri 2/6 @ 6-10PM
Get your tickets in advance and get there early because the Cleveland Museum of Art’s monthly MIX party is one of the most popular events on its calendar.
This month’s theme is Peace, Love and Soul, which should make for a groovy mix. It’s honoring Black history month in general and Cleveland’s funk, soul and R&B musical history in particular. Luckily, some of the key players of that scene are still around, including Michael J. Calhoun, founding member of the Dazz Band, who’ll bring his latest lineup of the band originally called the Kinsman Dazz Band. They’ll play at 7:15.
Before and after, you can strut your moves to music spun by DJ Kristyles, who’ll be playing a lot of the same type of music, including Motown favorites and bands that have ties to northeast Ohio such as the O’Jays (Canton, inducted into the Rock Hall in 2005), Bobby Womack (born in Cleveland and inducted into the Rock Hall in 2009) and the Ohio Players (Dayton, which has apparently been relocated 200 miles up I-71.)
So break out your best retro Soul Train looks and get ready to hit the dance floor. As usual, there will be themed food and drinks available for purchase. The party takes place in the Atrium but guests are free to check out the galleries too.
Get your tickets here. Mix is a 21+ event.
