SHED Projects Hosts Nail Artist for Three-Day Stay

Thu 5/28-Sat 5/30

New Orleans-based mixed-media nail artist Rachel Eckenrode will be moving into the SHED Projects house gallery for a three-day mini-residency when she’ll share the space with the closing of Akeylah Wellington’s my new build.

Eckenrode, a licensed nail technician, views nail art as a form of “wearable sculpture,” as she toggles between practical salon and fashion work, and art projects. “Combining precision line work, sculptural 3D techniques, hand-painted detail, and experimental uses of texture and color, Eckenrode creates sets that function simultaneously as cohesive compositions and individual objects,” we’re told. She’s previously collaborated with SHED Projects’ co-owner Jon Gott on projects.

While at SHED, she’ll host a limited pop-up nail salon and lead workshops on nail art. Appointments are by RSVP. There will also be a Mancala (a board game played with stones) tournament at 2pm with ten Mancala boards handcrafted by Wellington which will be available for purchase after the tournament. To sign up for the tournament and nail appointments and get exhibit hours, go to www.shed-projects.org. The shows are free and open to all.
