The Morgan Art of Papermaking Conservatory’s next show is called All About Abaca, and it shines a light on one of the Morgan’s programs: art based on paper made from natural fibers. Abaca is an exceptionally strong and durable leaf fiber made from a Filipino banana plant.
This show features both 2025 Morgan artists-in-residence experienced with using abaca paper and local artists with little experience with it who were given a 40” by 60” sheet of handmade abaca paper to work with and produce something that incorporated their own artistic vision and practice. Artists in the show include artists-in-residence Mia Brown-Seguin, Craig Fisher, Sanaz Hagan, Nicole Uzzell and Kirsten Willders, along with Antwoine Washington, Liana Gonzalez, Emily Olszewski and Theadis Reagins.
Meet the artists at the opening reception on Friday May 29. It’s free and open to all. The show will be on view through June 30.
