The mission of M.U.S.I.C. aka Musical Upcoming Stars in the Classics is to look for opportunities for up-and-coming classical musicians to play and for audiences to hear them.
It’s offering a great opportunity for both when it presents its holiday-themed show in the Ames Family Atrium of the Cleveland Museum of Art — a free performance. The program will offer winter-themed pieces such as Mozart’s “Sleigh Ride” from his German dances, as well as his Piano Trio in D flat major; two contrasting pieces called “Winter” by Antonio Vivaldi and Astor Piazzolla; vocal selections by Jule Styne, Giuseppe Verdi, and Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe. They’ll also play excerpts from Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s seasonal standard The Nutcracker, accompanying performances by members of the Ohio Contemporary Ballet.
Musicians, who come from around the world, include violinists Zachary Brandon, Amir Efe and Minchae Kim; pianists Anna Grudskaya, Alexander Kostritsa and Jackson Naglick; sopranos Catherina Carrington and Chuting Huang; tenor Jingdian Zhou; baritone Colin DeMatteo; cellist Brendon Phelps; double bassist Steven Brija; and saxophonist Perry Roth.
