Tue 12/23 @ 7-10PM
If you’re scratching your head about all the “Festivus” events at this time of year, here’s what you need to know. The December 23rd “holiday” is an invention of author Daniel O’Keeffe, whose son, TV writer Dan O’Keeffe, gave this family in-joke wings when he used it for a 1997 episode of The Seinfeld Show. Most of the ideas driving Festivus events come from that Seinfeld episode.
Market Garden Brewery will be the site of one such celebration on the actual Festivus-designated day. Doors open at 7pm with drinks and munchies. “Settle in, mingle, and admire the total lack of tinsel,” they say.
At 7:15, a Festivus tradition called “Airing of Grievances” takes place, when you get to whine and complain, a la Seinfeld. That’s followed at 8pm with Festivus/Seinfeld trivia. And there are prizes! At 8:45 you can take part in another Festivus tradition from that Seinfeld episode, “Feats of Strength,” and at 9:15 there will be “Festivus Miracles,” we’re promised. Things wind up with a 9:45 toast with Festivus Ale or any Market Garden brew you prefer.
