Morgan Conservatory Show Features Work of Artistic Director Tom Balbo

Sat 10/2 @ 5:30-9PM

Cleveland artist Tom Balbo began his career as a ceramicist and printmaker, earning a B.A. and M.A. in studio arts. But the siren song of paper lured him in and he began to experiment with the various ways paper could be turned into art.

That led to him joining with other area artists to found the Morgan Art of Papermaking Conservatory on the model started by Zygote Press, with a gallery, workshop, classes and space for artists to work.  He’s Morgan’s artistic director while maintaining an active arts practice of his own.

Now the Morgan is showcasing his work in a new show called In Search of a New Moon featuring work he’s done in the last 18 months, inspired by nature and wildlife s well as the isolation and solitude of the pandemic months.

Instead of its annual benefit, the Morgan will host a celebration of the exhibit, where Balbo will be giving demonstrations and talking about the pieces in the show, which will be available for sale, with a percentage going back to the Morgan for its artist in residence program.
