Tremont’s Doubting Thomas Gallery Celebrates 25th Anniversary

Fri 11/14 @ 6-10PM

Tremont’s Doubting Thomas Gallery is the last gallery standing from the neighborhood’s late 90s/2000s era as Cleveland’s reigning art neighborhood, with intriguing little galleries in storefronts and alleys throughout the area. Founded by Dr. Theresa Boyd, it was always one of the scrappiest, most informal and most inconsistent. Mounting both solo shows and themed group shows, you might see a work by one of Northeast Ohio’s most celebrated artists next to something that looked like it had been thrown together that day by someone who’d never made an art piece before.

During this month’s Walkabout Tremont, the successor to its legendary artwalks (with more emphasis on its current crop of eateries, bars and lounges), Doubting Thomas will be celebrating its 25th anniversary with a group show of some of hundreds (thousands?) of artists who have shown work there over the years. One of the gallery’s mainstays, Shawn Mishak (who just curated a comprehensive show there of photos, flyers, film and other memorabilia about the late legendary venue Pat’s in the Flats), curated the show. Make it your last stop — the party always runs late here. You’ll recognize it by the profusion of colorful inhalation art on the outside wall and on its tree lawn.
