Blue Lunch has been part of the Cleveland music scene longer than most people’s memories of the local music scene. The band, which plays a horn-drive mixture of rock, blues, R&B and swing, will be celebrating their 40th year next year. But they’re starting the celebration early with a party at the BOP STOP marking the release of their 9th album (and their first in 12 years, following up 2015’w Above the Fold) titled Get Lit!, on the Wilbert’s record label, the same label, named after a long-running Cleveland venue, that released their first album in 1997, Live at Wilbert’s.
The show at the BOP STOP with also include their third Sax Shootout. Former Blue Lunch member Chris Burge and Pittsburgh-based sax player Mario Perrett will join Blue Lunch current sax player Adam Gilbert for a saxy jam. And another Blue Lunch alum, Hammond organ player Tim Longfellow will be swelling the onstage number as well.
