Brazilian-born Cleveland singer/songwriter/guitarist Moises Borges and jazz vocalist/composer Ava Preston, who just finished up her master’s degree at Juilliard in NYC, come from different generations. But sparks fly when they take the stage together as they have at venues such as Riverdog Barn and the BOP STOP.
Borges was born in Bahai, but he has lived in Cleveland for decades. In that time, he’s has been lighting up area stages with his infectious music informed by the rhythms of his native country, such as bossa nova and samba. He performs a wide repertoire of pieces by noted Brazilian composers as well as his original music. Preston cut her teeth in Tri-C’s jazz program and in local clubs where she was performing even before she was in her teens. She’s been performing in New York clubs and recently won the 2026 International Ella Fitzgerald Jazz Vocal Competition.
This week, the two artists will be at the cozy Market Avenue Wine Bar in Ohio City, where you can relax on a couch with a glass of wine and soak in the music.
“It’s a musical encounter between two worlds. Ava brings her beautiful English-language vocals and expressive jazz improvisations, while I bring the guitar, the rhythms of Brazil, and the timeless melodies of Bossa Nova, sung in my native Brazilian Portuguese,” Borges shares. “Two voices, two musical worlds, and a little Brazilian romance. What could be better?”
