Blues/rock/folk singer/vocalist/songwriter Bonnie Raitt had a long road to travel before her Grammy-winning 1990 breakout album Nick of Time at the age of 40. By then she’d made ten albums and been performing and touring for 20 years. Since then she’s received a dozen more Grammys and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000.
Local education nonprofit Roots of American Music’s is hosting a series called Masters of American Music, which shares the stories of important American musicians in music and storytelling. It takes place on the fourth Wednesday of each month at Visible Voice Books’ new theater space. Raitt is their featured artist this month. The performer honoring Raitt will be Roots of America Music’s executive director, Cleveland singer/songwriter/guitarist Taylor Lamborn, who says she is inspired by Raitt’s music and guitar playing as well as her advocacy work on behalf of her overlooked predecessors, children’s music education, the No Nukes movement and environmental causes.
There’s a $15 cover at the door which supports the work of Roots of American Music, which uses music to educate people of all ages about history, culture and civics.
