Carlos Jones & the P.L.U.S. Band Are Back for Their Annual Wade Oval Wednesday Show

Wed 7/1 @ 5:30-8:30PM

From mid-June to mid-August, University Circle’s Wade Oval is the place to be on Wednesday evenings for music, food, fun and just relaxing. Bring your friends, fam, food and blanket and enjoy the summer fresh air, while listening to music from local bands in a variety of genres — no tribute bands here!

The most eagerly anticipated of the evenings is the Wednesday before July 4, the slot held every year by Carlos Jones & the P.L.U.S. Band, Northeast Ohio’s best-known reggae group. Jones has been part of the reggae crossover scene since his days with I-Tal on the late 70s. From 1984 through 1998, he was one of the frontmen for the wildly popular First Light, whose rockin’ reggae packed regional clubs. With his own “Peace/Love/Unity Syndicate” Jones continues in the footsteps of First Light, with warm approachable music and a stage presence that sparkles with warmth. There’ll be a lot of dancing down by the stage.

Nasir Wilson & The Afrofunk Revolution will get the evening started, warming up for the P.L.U.S. Band. There’s also be roaming entertainment form Pickup Stix Stilt Walking and Hula Hoops with Gerri — the hula hoops will be available for anyone to use, and it’s always fun to see everyone from toddlers to grandmas spinning the hoops. As on every Wednesday, there’ll be more than a dozen food vendors offering everything from substantial dinners to sweet snacks, as well as information tables from sponsoring groups.

Wade Oval Wednesdays are free and family-friendly.
