Once again, Graffit HeArt, the nonprofit that promotes street-style art through a variety of programs, is hosting a one-day art show that’s as much an event as an exhibition. Taking place on Saturday May 16, it’s called Shaken Not Stirred: Mixed to Perfection, Sprayed With Style.
The show will feature 24 artists who use spray paint as their main medium, but they can be painters, photographers, sculptors, graffiti writers, digital artists — visual creatives of all types open to incorporating spray paint into their work as the main medium. If you’d like to be considered, send 2-3 samples of your work — not necessarily the piece that would be in the show, but just examples of your style — along with an optional bio and/or letter of interest to submityourart@yahoo.com. Each selected artist will submit one piece up to 30 x 40 inches in size.
Artist Bob Peck, who’s organizing the show says, “Looking for artists to step outside of their comfort zone with this one. Artists who don’t normally use spray paint are highly encouraged to submit their work. Think outside of the box. Mixed medium of all types welcome. Spray paint on a sculpture, spray paint on a print you created digitally. Stencils, graffiti…spray some paint onto a mop and drag it across a canvas. Anything goes! Tell us your ideas for your piece when you submit your work.”
The deadline for submissions is January 10.
The show will coincide with the second annual Street Art Jam, which took place in August last year—too hot! That event will showcase street and graffiti artists painting on a 300-foot-long canvas outdoors, along with live music and food trucks. Go here for more info.
