How do you confront authoritarianism? How about more than seven million people turning out for No Kings rallies across the country (and more around the world) in October 18 warning the current administration that we’re watching and we don’t approve. It topped three similar rallies earlier this year including the Hands Off rally, the Good Trouble rally and a previous No Kings event.
Are there ways to keep that momentum going and make it more effective? Are there other ways of fighting back against the encroachment of authoritarianism threatening democracy and freedom in the U.S. That’s the topic of the next Sunday morning forum at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Cleveland, part of its Forums That Matter series.
The speaker will be Dr. Cherie Strachan, professor at the University of Akron’s Ray C. Bliss Institute of Applied Politics. She’ll look at ways to overcome our understandable feelings of helplessness as the administration attempts to strip the media, universities and legal system of fairness, balance and equity, and explore what we can do to stop it and reverse the trend.
The forum is free and open to all, and you can also watch on Zoom.
