Prominent Local Jazz Bassist Aidan Plank Presents His Masters Recital

Sun 2/25 @ 2PM

Normally we wouldn’t be recommending anyone’s masters degree recital, but bassist Aidan Plank isn’t just anyone in the area jazz scene. The Oberlin native and Cleveland State grad who is finishing his masters in Jazz Studies at Youngstown State University, has left his imprint as one of the young rising stars of northeast Ohio jazz. He’s performed with musicians such as Joe Lovano, Dominick Farinacci, Maria Jacobs and Jamey Haddad; his presence in any ensemble assures a high level of musicianship. He also [performs with the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra and teaches at Kent State, and in 2017 he curated a year-long series of concerts called Cleveland Greats, featuring tributes to noted area musicians such as Evelyn Wright, Howie Smith and Jack Schantz, whose legacy Plank is carrying forward.

This recital will include Plank’s own compositions, as well as his arrangements of works from the jazz repertoire, including pieces for both large and small ensembles. The evening is free, although donations are the door will be gratefully accepted. The concert will also be livestreamed on the BOP STOP’s Facebook page.
