Art House Shows Documentary About Man Who Learned to Paint in Prison

Thu 10/19 @ 6-8PM

George Anthony Morton learned to paint while spending a decade in prison for dealing drugs. Once he was released he returned to his hometown of Kansas City to paint family members in Old Dutch Masters style and confront his and his relatives’ legacy of trauma and poverty, and the impact of racial injustice.

The 2022 documentary film Master of Light, directed by Rosa Boesten and aired on HBO Max, tells his story. Art House Inc will be screening the film as part of its Community Culture Night series, followed by a discussion. There will also be refreshments! And while the programs are free and open to all, they warn that the film may not be suitable for younger children.
