Rachel Brown & the Beatnik Playboys Get Feet Moving at the Bainbridge Swing Dance

Sat 5/6 @ 8PM

One of the most special things about the monthly Bainbridge Swing Dances is that you not only get to dance and socialize, but you get to do some to the live music of some of the region’s most talented musicians, playing high-energy, feet-moving music in a variety of danceable genres.

This month the players are the inimitable Rachel & the Beatnik Playboys. The band is fronted by pianist/vocalist Rachel Brown, whose punchy but sly vocals combine the heartbreak sound of Patsy Cline with the sass of an Ella Fitzgerald or Sarah Vaughan, and the hard-hitting raunch of a blues mama. Her band consists of three of the best veteran musicians in the area: bassist Bill Watson, drummer Roy King and guitarist Dave Huddleston.

The dance are all-ages social events, which welcome families, couples and singletons, experienced dancers and those who’ve never hit a dance floor before.

Doors open at 7:30; at 8pm there’s a dance class, so if you’ve never one this before, you can learn the steps — and there’ll be friendly regulars there to help you out. Music starts at 9 and runs to 11pm. And don’t worry about coming alone: swing dances are designed for partner changing so you get to meet a lot of people and make some new friends.

The dances take place on the first Saturday of each month at the Family Life Center (16349 Chillicothe Road, Chagrin Falls. Admission is $15, $10 per child or $40 per family. No registration is required. Get more information here.
