One of the missions of the Waterloo Arts District-based nonprofit Cleveland Rocks: Past, Present, Future is to provide working musicians with information to help them improve their skills and grow their careers.

It’s launching a new program to do so: monthly professional development workshops held on the third Monday of each month at the Cleveland Rocks Shop on Waterloo. Each event will start with a discussion on a music-related subject from 7-8pm, followed by a songwriter showcase featuring four artists performing two songs apiece from 8-9pm.

March’s workshop will address to topic of microphone choices for musicians and vocalists. There’ll be several different types of microphones available with headphones and/or speaker for musicians can try them out and compare the different types of mics from manufacturers such as Shure, Telefunken, Beyerdynamic, Audix, and AKG. They’ll be able to ask questions from knowledgeable people onsite too.

The songwriters for this month’s event are Chris Tuma, Waylong Fingers, Warren Bendler, and Kevin McCarthy (a Cleveland-based American/alt country musician, not the Speaker of the House of Representatives and Good Friend of Tucker Carlson).
