Hinckley Buzzard Day Welcomes the Turkey Buzzard with Family-Friendly Fun

Sun 3/19 @ 7AM-2PM

By the time you read this, the turkey buzzards will have made their annual return to Hinckley in Medina County: they return every year on March 15.

And on the nearest Sunday, Hinckley’s Chamber of Commerce hosts Hinckley Buzzard Day, now in its 66th year. It’s become quite an event, attracting people from surrounding states. It probably didn’t hurt that in that mid 70s, WMMS-FM adopted the buzzard as its mascot, just around the time the station started to dominate the airwaves in northeast Ohio and become famous around the country for breaking major artists.

These days, the event still attracts a ton of people who enjoy family-friendly attractions such as the all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast at the school, the Outback Ray Animal Show, the chance to see live buzzards close up and learn the benefits these homely critters bring to our ecosystem, a craft fair, a Buzzard Day documentary screening every half hour frm10am-12:30pm, a performance by the Improvaneers from noon-1pm and a pet contest at the town hall from 1:15-1:45pm with judging in categories such as most unusual, best trick and best costume.
