Local Jazz Musicians Offer New Original Works as Third Law Collective

Thu 1/26 @ 7-10PM

If you want to hear some of the best jazz musicians in northeast Ohio, stop down at the BOP STOP to catch the Third Law Collective, which features ten of them, from the scene’s rising young stars to seasoned veterans such as CSU music professor emeritus, sax player Howie Smith.

Smith is one of the group’s co-leaders and composers, along with guitarist Dan Bruce, bassist Aidan Plank, sax players Chris Coles and Brad Wagner, and flute player Bryan Kennard, who’s also the new director of the BOP STOP. Also onstage will be drummer Dustin May, pianist Anthony Fuoco, trombonist Mark Maudlin, and another legend of the area jazz scene, Jack Schantz, on trumpet and flugelhorn.

The concert is touted as the first in a series to promote new music works and with that much composing talent, they’re not likely to go dry soon. “The goal of the Third Law Collective is to create a space where area writers can present original works for a unique ensemble,” says their promotion. “In doing so, the collective will serve as a testing ground for new ideas, engaging collaboration, and improvisational explorations.”

Get in early and watch things take shape. Tickets to be in the room are $20 with $10 student tickets available at the door. The concert will also be livestreamed on the BOP STOP’s Facebook page.
