Wade Oval Offers “Welcome Back Wednesdays” in August

Forecast

Wed 8/4, Wed 8/11, Wed 8/18 & Wed 8/25 @ 5:30-7:30PM

A lot of the usual summer events didn’t happen on their usual dates because back when planning needs to be happening, we didn’t know what course the pandemic would be taking. That includes Wade Oval Wednesdays at University Circle, which typical start in early June and run through late August. This year, no announcement was forthcoming in June, despite the fact that such an outdoor event was probably safe by then. And by July it was hosting Yay! Saturdays at Wade Oval, a more family-oriented event (not that Wade Oval Wednesdays aren’t family-oriented).

Now however, University Circle Inc has announced a short “Welcome Back Wednesdays” series, taking place all four Wednesdays in August. They kick off with Forecast on August 4, followed by Hubb’s Groove on August 11, two very similar bands who both play R&B/pop-infused soft jazz appealing mostly to older adults — the kids will probably be bored.

On August 18, they liven things up with horn-driven jump blues/swing/early rock ensemble Blue Lunch, and they really amp up the party on August 25, closing with the swamp rock of Cats on Holiday. Even the kids might enjoy that!

Bring your blanket or folding chair, along with your snacks, although there will be food trucks on site if you prefer. Masks aren’t required, although they’ll be available, and they’ll have five hand sanitizer stations. Of course they’re free, as always. Pay attention to the time though. Instead of the usual Wade Oval Wednesdays 6-9pm hours, these events will run for a shorter, earlier 5:30-7:30pm.
