Fri 4/2 @ 8-9PM
Improvised, experimental music exists to offer the unexpected, and certainly, the combination of harp and bassoon in a duo ensemble isn’t something you hear often. But that’s what bassoonist Dana Jessen and harpist Stephan Haluska will be offering in a live streamed concert from the BOP STOP, where they’ll perform a one-hour improvised set.
Haluska is well known in the area music community, through his teaching at The Music Settlement and his frequent performances, which treat the harp as something with much deeper potential that the usual ethereal sounds associated with it. Instead he uses non-traditional techniques and assorted tools and materials to alter its sound in creative ways. Jessen, who now teaches at Oberlin Conservatory, has also used her instrument in ways not typically associated with it, collaborating with a variety of experimental, innovative ensembles and musicians, as well as giving boundary-pushing solo performances.
The performance is free although donations for the performers are always appreciated. Go here to donate. Hook up with the performance on the BOP STOP’s Facebook page.
