Cleveland Play House Shares Songs from Holiday Musical Online

Through Fri 1/1

The First Noel, a musical, made its debut at the Apollo Theater in New York in 2015, where it had an encore run in 2016. The book, music and lyrics were co-authored by Jason Michael Webb and Lelund Durond Thompson, the first black male graduate of the Case Western Reserve University/Cleveland Play House MFA program. After graduation he moved to New York where he hooked up with native New Yorker Webb to create this stage production.

With a feel-good, universal story about a family reconciling past sorrows with the present to bring about healing and peace, the musical features pop, jazz and gospel music, including re-imagined holiday classics.

Now the Cleveland Play House is presenting a virtual broadcast premiere event, a concert titled Songs From The First Noel” so people can enjoy that array of uplifting, seasonal music. The broadcast also includes behind-the-scenes interviews with Webb and Thompson, as well as Steve H. Broadnax III, who co-directed the product with Thompson.

Tickets are $10 per household; get them here. It’s available on demand through Friday January 1.
