Dobama Kids’ Playwriting Festival Is Open for Submissions

Through Mon 3/1, 2021

Dobama Theatre’s Marilyn Bianchi Kids’ Playwriting Festival, named after one of the theater’s co-founders, has been going on for more than 40 years. It gives kids and teens in grades 1-12 a chance to try their hands at writing dialogue to express their ideas and stretch their imaginations, and perhaps even see their work performed live on stage.

Submissions are now open for the 43rd annual festival. Any student can submit a short play no longer than ten minutes when read out loud (Try it on mom and dad!) Plays must be original so no adaptations of a favorite TV show, movie or video game. All topics and genres are welcome; it can be serious or funny, heartwarming or scary.

Each play will be read and scored by at least three adults judges and 15-22 plays will be chosen as winner, with some of them scheduled for performance at Dobama in June 2021, pandemic permitting.

For rules on how to submit ad some ideas on how to get started, go here. Submissions will be accepted through Monday March 1, 2021.
