Artist Shows Quilts Inspired by the Pandemic at 78th Street Studios

Fri 10/16 @ 5-8PM

Quiltmaking is an art usually associated with women, and often looked down on as “mere” craft. Fiber artist Will Grimm, a 2019 graduate of the Maryland Institute College of Art, is going against the grain.

“Quilts are multifunctional,” he points out. “They are generational and precious, passed from one to another. Sacred when hanging as art on the wall. Warm and safe, enveloping you at night — a feeling foreign to many in this moment. Maybe most overlooked, quilts tell stories, documenting life at the time of their creation.”

So they’re a perfect vessel for carrying his feelings about the pandemic and its quarantine. And he’s putting them on view in a show called Lockdown, which will open at KINK Contemporary at 78thStreet Studios this Third Friday, whre you can see them from 5-8pm. They’ll be on display through Friday November 13.
