Think about the 1955 classic Disney animated film Lady & the Tramp. What’s the one song you remember from that movie?
“We are Siamese if you please/we are Siamese if you don’t please.”
These classic kitties, which were the rage of the 1950s, were the stars of the film, with their mischievous (some said sneaky & conniving but we said adorable) behavior.
So now there’s a remake (sigh) and they have REMOVED THE SIAMESE CATS, claiming the segment was racist (how about just re-recording the song without the mock Chinese accent?)
This cannot stand. So forget about the movie, and come out instead to the Medina County Community Center for the Cleveland Area Cat Show and Adoptathon. There WILL be Siamese cats. The folks at Disney may be idiots, but cat show organizers aren’t. There’ll also be Persians and Bengals and Abyssinians and many more breeds, because aren’t they all adorable? There’ll even be ordinary house cats who aren’t judged by breed standards but rather on their health, beauty and personality.
The show also features vendors selling pet-related items, a fundraising raffle and the folks from the Euclid Beach Cat Project with cats who need homes. Oh — and “Feline Agility.” Ha ha. We’ll see if the cats are in the MOOD to demonstrate their agility or if they just want to take a nap.
Adult admission is $7, seniors and kids 6-12 are $5, and a whole family of crazy cat people is $20.
