Arts Renaissance Tremont Kicks Off Season with Piano/Cello Duo

Sun 10/13 @ 3PM

It’s a new season — the 29th — for Arts Renaissance Tremont, yet another opportunity in Northeast Ohio to hear top-flight classical music for free. It launches the season with a program featuring cellist Darrett Adkins and pianist Cicilia Yudha, taking place at its usual location at Pilgrim Church UCC.

The fact that both musicians have international careers while based in northeast Ohio shows why the area is rife with such opportunities.

Adkins has appeared as a soloist with orchestra in Asia, Europe, South America and the U.S., performed at festivals here and abroad and has an active career as a chamber musician as part of Lions Gate Trio. He’s also known for commissioning new works, which he premieres. He’s an Oberlin graduate who now teaches at the Oberlin Conservatory as well as at Juilliard and the Aspen Music Festival and School.

Yudha also performs internationally as a chamber musician and soloist, and gives master classes in the U.S. and Southeast Asia. Among her degrees is one from the Cleveland Institute of Music. She’s an associate professor of music at the Dana School of Music at Youngstown State University, where she founded the Dana Piano Trio.

Adkins and Yudha will play Leos Janáček’s  Pohádka (Fairy Tale) for Cello & Piano, Zoltan Kodály’s  Solo Cello Sonata, Op. 8, Olivier Messiaen’s  from Quatuor pour la fin du temps (Quartet for the End of Time, Louange à l’Éternité de Jésus and Frédéric Chopin’s G minor Sonata for Cello & Piano.

Admission is free, of course, although freewill donations are gratefully accepted, and the concerts also collect non-perishable food items for the Pilgrim Food Pantry.
