“Made in Cleveland” at Tri-C East Features Work by Local Arts Organization Founders

Work by Liz Maugans

Thu 9/12 @ 6-8:30PM

The new show, Made in Cleveland, organized by Artists Archives of the Western Reserve at the Tri-C Gallery East, pays tribute to the nonprofit arts organization model pioneered in Cleveland by Zygote Press in the mid 1990s. It provided classes, equipment and workspace for artists, and a gallery to show work in its particular discipline, printmaking. Today, other nonprofits have spring up on the same model, supporting photography, fiber arts, paper arts and ceramics, among other art forms.

Made in Cleveland presents art work by some of the founders of these organizations: Zygote co-founders Liz Maugans, Joe Sroka, Kelly Novak and Bellamy Printz, the co-founders of Zygote, Shari Wilkins of the Cleveland Print Room; Jessica Pinski of Praxis Fiber Arts and Tom Balbo of the Morgan Art of Papermaking Conservatory. The exhibit will also feature work by sculptor David E. Davis, who founded Artists Archives of the Western Reserve in 1998 to preserve work of area artists and present shows of their work.

Made in Cleveland opens with a reception Thu 9/12 @ 6-8:30pm and remains on view through Thu 10/17.
